About me….
I like to keep things simple.
I value good old common sense.
I think access to knowledge should be free.
But I know wisdom has a price.
“Seek wisdom leading to life.”
January 27, 2025 Update
I deeply appreciate all the comments. It is time for an update on my About page.
I started this blog with a lot of optimism as I attended my first writer’s conference in Portland, Oregon. I shared my writing journey and tried to pass on helpful tips I learned in the process. Today I write about current issues on my Substack site, Another View
I hope to bring perspective in my writing and try not to shy away from difficult topics. During this time of upheaval in the world, I think of the words of the beloved Mr. Rogers, “Look for the helpers.” We can always find good people who are being helpful.
I recently published a novel, From a Distance, now available on Amazon. Before that I wrote, A Happy Life: Moments with Denny and Rosie. The latter is humorous look at marriage after the empty nest.
I grew up in rural Manitoba, Canada and have held a variety of jobs over the years which have broadened my experience and enriched my life. I started out as a volunteer parks playground supervisor. My first paying job was as a dishwasher. I then moved on to be a waitress in a family diner, a pizza restaurant and a Chinese food restaurant. I worked in a sewing factory, a hospital, a school for mentally challenged adults and as a gas bar attendant, a music teacher, and live-in care giver for an elderly woman before I married and devoted myself to raising two children. Over the years I’ve served in a volunteer capacity as a church worship director, children’s minister, ESL instructor, and drama and music director.
My husband and I moved our family to British Columbia in the late 90’s. There we planted a church and ran a Tea Room. Prior to that we taught at a Bible School in the Philippines for five years.
In 2010 we completed our degrees at Pacific Life Bible College. I graduated with my BA in Church Ministries with a Major in Counselling. I continued graduate studies at ACTS Seminaries, Trinity Western University.
I especially loved our years of work with college-aged students, both in the Philippines and in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia as we lived on campus as dorm parents and studied at Pacific Life Bible College.
Currently I am working on a memoir. I have had many requests for a sequel to my novel so that might be the next thing.
Our sons are now married and we are blessed with three married grandchildren whom we adore. I have truly seen God give us the desires of our hearts. Psalm 37:4 “Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
